Henriette Fuerth (August 15, 1861 - June 8, 1938) was a Jewish social politician, feminist, scholar and publicist; she was born in Gießen and lived and worked in Darmstadt and Frankfurt am Main. In addition to her reputation for her scholarly work, she was also known for her social and political engagement. She was an active member of the Union for Maternity Protection and was active in the legal protection movement as well as in the Social Demogratic Party of Germany; she was also one of the first women in the city parliament of Frankfurt. As a consequence of her scholarly work, she became the first female member of the German Association for Sociology.
She was self-taught, a mother of eight children, and as a Jew, had to fight antisemitism all her lifetime. The multifaceted aspects of social discrimination she had experienced in her own life had great influence on her work and her dedicated social engagement.
